Reset Your Clocks Tonight
It has been a great summer, but looking outside and at the calendar we must accept that it is over!
Today is the last day of Daylight Saving Time. In order to be on time for Bible study tomorrow morning, you must reset your clock one hour earlier before going to bed tonight, Saturday, November 3. The official time change is 2:00 AM Sunday, November 4, but who wants to get up at that time to make the change?
Deaf Bible class & Morning Worship in ASL
Every person learns in his/her own language. God has blessed this congregation with three ministers. One of them, Andrew Deuschle, is deaf. Each Sunday morning Andrew teaches a Bible class and follows that by preaching during a worship service. Both are conducted in American Sign Language, the language of the Deaf.
If you need transportation to Bible class and worship, please call us at 272-7584 by noon on Friday. If you call after 4:30 PM press the prompt for the Care-A-Van and leave a message.
If you are deaf and would like to worship and learn in your own language, we would welcome you to come worship with us.
Morning Worship
The auditorium where we worship is to your left as you enter our building. You may sit anywhere you choose.
Our greeters can direct you to our attended nursery for children who have not yet reached their 3rd birthday.
We have congregational singing without mechanical instruments and we invite everyone to participate.
The preacher doesn't have a title and he won't wear any special clothing to set him apart. We think you will find what he has to say to be refreshingly relevant and Bible-centered.
At the close of each sermon the preacher will invite those who wish to do so to step to the front to request prayers or to be baptized. He will not single you out in any way so don't feel ill at ease during this time. If anyone responds for baptism, you will witness the baptism during the service.
If you visit on a Sunday morning, the Lord's Supper will be part of the worship. Men will pass plates containing unleavened bread and trays of small cups of grape juice. Those who wish to do so may break off a small piece of the bread and drink the contents of one of the cups. In addition, the same men will pass the plates to collect the weekly offering. If you do not choose to participate in any of these, just pass the plate or tray to the person next to you.
So what is expected of you when you visit our assemblies? Nothing at all! You are welcome to participate, but don't feel obligated. We do ask you to fill out a visitor's card so that we can appropriately thank you for your visit.
Bible Classes and AM Worship
We offer Bible classes in English for everyone from newborns to however old you are. We also have class and worship in ASL for adult and high school students.
Our classes are designed and conducted to keep the students' attention, teach on each level about God's love, the sacredness of the Holy Bible, how He cares for us, the sacrifce that Jesus made for us, and what we need to know to please Him and go to Heaven.
We welcome and encourage you to attend the class that has been prepared just for you. You will find a warm welcome from the moment you walk in the door.
If you need transportation to Bible class and worship, please call us at 272-7584 and press the prompt for the Care-A-Van.
We look forward to seeing you next Sunday.
CASA at Parkview Center
Every Monday evening Dave Olson, our prison minister, conducts a CASA (Christians Against Substance Abuse) classat the Parkview Center, a local halfway house to which men who have been incarcerated have been released. Dave uses the NewLife Behavior curriculum, which has many courses, each course having 13 lessons. After each class, the students take the lessons and answer the questions, bringing them back the following week for grading.
If you would be interested in learning to assist Dave in this worthwhile work, contact him at the church office at 272-7584.
John Coffman's Group Discussion Concludes
This is the last week for this session of John's Thursday night class. We will take a break for a few weeks and then resume. Watch our calendar for the dates of the next class.
Family Camp
Wow! Summer is over and here it is time for Family Camp. Where did the time go?
Come join us in one of the most beautiful places on earth as we say "good-by to summer" and "hello to fall." Family Camp is a laid back time when families enjoy one anothers' company and do pretty much what they want to do. The schedule is light and we all simply enjoy ourselves in an atmosphere of Christian friendship and fellowship.
Everyone takes a turn at cooking and cleaning up after that meal. We will have a devotional Friday and Saturday nights and worship Sunday morning. Other than that, each family plans its activities to suit themselves. And it's all for a minimal cost. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity for fun and relaxation before the school year begins.
To sign up, or for more information, contact Patrick Hewlett.
9:00 Continental Breakfast/No Classes
Every Labor Day weekend at 9:00 AM, instead of Bible classes we have a time of fellowship during a complimentary catered Continental Breakfast. Come fill your tummy and enjoy visiting with your brothers, sisters, and visitors. Many of our members will be at Midnight Sun Bible Camp for Family Camp. That means more food for us! And you won't even have to wash dishes.
Breakfast will be served between 9:00 and 9:30. Everything will be cleared away by 9:45 in time for morning worship.
Cook Inlet Bible Study
Every Sunday several men volunteer to go to Cook Inlet Pre-Trial to meet with inmates who desire to study God's Word. This study lasts about an hour and a half and many men have responded to the Gospel through this study.
Dave Olson, our full-time prison minister coordinates this effort. He and Gary Eller, also from this congregation, teach on a rotating basis with Norris Payne and Brad Thomas, both from the South Anchorage congregation. Every week Margaret Watson serves as their assistant by handling the attendance, and distributing, collecting, and grading the free Bible correspondence courses that we offer.
If you would be interested in working with this satisfactory, on-going effort, please call Dave at the church office at 272-7584.
Cordova Center Worship
On the 1st Sunday of each month, Dave Olson coordinates a worship service at the Cordova Center, a half-way house for men and women who are transitioning from correctional facilities to free society. Dave invites you to join him and others as they go worship with those who are interested in learning about God and His church.
You must be 18 years old and have a valid photo I.D. If you are interested in seeing what this is all about, attend our evening worship and go to the foyer at 6:30. If you are willing to assist Dave in the service, contact him personally ahead of time.
Parking is limited. The church van will provide transportation
Youth Devotional at S. Anch.
The South Anchorage Church of Christ invites our Youth to a devotional on the 1st Sunday of each month. The devotional will take place after evening worship. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun and fellowship of other teens
